More of my little girl

As I was sitting on the couch watching the kids (I think I was actually feeding one of the babies), the other day I started thinking. There are many choices we make in life that seem right and then a couple months later we question if we had done the right thing. There have been times in life when we wished we could replay and have another shot to do things better. Then there are times like now. I was sitting on the couch with one foot tucked under me and the other dangling down (yes, for you tall people out there my leg was dangling because it didnt reach the floor). I looked at the edge of the couch and little fingers appeared. In just a couple seconds I heard giggling and saw eyes looking over the edge of the couch at me. Yes, Emily is learning to pull herself up. She can pull up to her knees pretty easy now, its getting all the way to her feet that she has trouble with...but I'm sure that will come soon. And then, that same day, one of the babies rolled over for the first time. I questioned whether I should tell the mom, knowing that it is those moments with Emily that I want to be there for, and I am thankful, with absolutely no regrets, that I get to stay home with her every day and see all those little things that mean so much. It seems like just yesterday we were excited she rolled over and now.....she's off! And she likes to try to eat leaves. Maybe she caught some of those edible plant programs before she was born and didnt realize that brown leaves weren't on the menu....

Busy Weekends

Once again, we had a busy, but fun, weekend. We went down to the property on the lake and took the boat out for a short ride with 3 other couples from our church. Unfortunately, after the 4th of July I had forgotten to change the camcorder from nightshot and so it made the video at the lake WAY too bright...basically a white screen with sound effects. Oh well. I did get some good pictures of Emily and her daddy playing in the water. I'm not sure exactly how long the ride was, but we rode out, stopped and played a while, and then rode back and it was the length emily needed. We actually stopped where we did because Emily was getting fussy and then the boat ramp was in view when she started getting fussy again. She was really good, which considering how busy we've been lately somewhat suprised me. Plus she stayed up until after midnight on Friday and Saturday this week. She's napping now....so are the other kids I'm watching. So really my only problem right now....I would LOVE to take a nap too!

Sometimes it doesnt matter how much fun you are having, you just have to take a nap!

Can anyone see what's about to happen next in this picture?

Emily and her daddy after "swimming" in the lake.

Isn't my stroller great? I'm having tons of fun on my walk!

A look of adoration....on both of their faces!

A puppy, a baby and a staircase

I realize lately you've mostly been looking at pictures with very few stories, so I thought I'd update with some words this time. Emily has taken off....she can army crawl as well as anybody in the armed forces. I told her daddy she thought that was how she was supposed to crawl after watching so many programs on the military channel. She does get up on her hands and knees, and has crawled a short shuffle that way, but usually ends up on her nose when she tries that. She may be going to be as coordinated as her mother:) Anyway, last night I was on the phone, her daddy was downstairs and she took off around the end of the loveseat, which Kendall happened to be laying on. She gets to the end of the loveseat and Kendall jumps up and goes in front of the stairs. (I was behind Emily but this was interesting so I just watched a few minutes.) Kendall starts doing something of a soccer goalie manuever not letting Emily get very close to the stairs. Emily stopped for a little bit but then she started going again so Kendall must've decided that method wasn't working very well, so she went and tried to grab Emily by the diaper. I thought I should step in at that point, but somehow Kendall knew that Emily wasn't supposed to go down the stairs by herself. Unfortunately, I didnt have the video camera in my hand and couldn't go get it (in case Kendall was unsuccessful I didnt want Emily to fall down the stairs either!)

And yes, Emily did ride the four wheeler, but on a very short SLOW ride. She thought it was great though. Her little knuckles were turning white holding on to the handlebar so tight when her daddy was trying to get her off. They wouldn't have sat there as long as they did, but it was really humid and my camera had been in the air conditioning and so it took it a while to unfog (have I ever mentioned how glad I am that I don't wear glasses anymore--a very good investment!)

Other recent questions....the three year old little girl that I keep a couple days a week asked me the other day "Does God have teeth?" I think that comes from almost everyone else that I keep is either Emily's age or younger and we've had several days of cranky babies as they have been teething.

And now I'm going to go to bed. Another busy weekend this weekend, then I think next week, we rest.....

Just Photos (with captions:)

Ok, I don't have a lot of time...4 minutes and counting to get this done so I'm just putting up some pictures with captions real quick. Enjoy.

Emily and her buddy playing together. Yep, they were the only ones there. I think the game was to see how many toys they could get out as quickly as possible.

She gets up on her hands and knees but so far is still army crawling and hasnt gone anywhere this way. She can still get in to EVERYTHING this way.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMERON! We celebrated on Saturday and I forgot to post on Monday to wish him a happy birthday. Forgetful Aunt Lori! By the way Cameron, I renewed your magazine.

Don't Grandma's have the best ideas? I thought it was a good idea, we were on a walk and I didn't have to carry her (we didnt take the stroller down with us this time)

Happy July 4th Everybody! And a great big thank you to all our veterans out there!

Staying Home

I'm very thankful that I get to stay home with my daughter. She does adorable stuff all the time. The other day I had the video camera downstairs while watching kids. one of the others was eating when Emily started kissing Alberta, the stuffed monkey I got when I was about 11.

Here are a few recent pictures too! Check out the teeth!

Saying Goodbye to another Friend

I am not yet 30. At my age, you never think about friends dying. Its been almost 4 months since Cassie went to heaven after a battle with cancer. I still think about her often, and pray that no one else I'm close to ever has to go through what she went through. I'm fortunate though, because as a teenager I never lost a friend to a car accident or anything like that, Cassie was the first close friend that was young that I lost. When you lose someone you think of all those things you've always said you'd do and looking back at what I've gotten to do, I've had some great experiences. When I was 13 I said I wanted a nametag in Yellowstone that said Lori--Missouri. In other words, wouldn't that be the greatest place to work. Ten years ago, I got that nametag, had an extraordinary summer that I wouldnt have traded for anything. I spent the following two summers out west, loving the land, discovering things about myself, and making close friends that would move mountains for you if needed. Where am I going with this rambling? This week I got news that one of those close friends...someone I spent almost every waking hour with the summer of 2000 passed away. Melissa's family doesn't know why. She was 25 years old and simply didn't wake up Monday morning. She had three small children, ages 3, 4, and 5. So many questions left unanswered and again, all I can do is think back on all of the good times we had, from working at the sheep center, Melissa putting on the sheep costume while I sat beside her nearly frozen in the fourth of July parade, to the late night phone calls after the summer had ended. And then there's the past few years, we've both been busy with life, an email here and there, an occassional phone call, but not a lot of communication. But still, I will always think of her as a close friend. And now, the best thing any of us can do, whether you knew Melissa or not, is to pray for her family, especially her husband, as he is now faced with raising his family without a mother, and dealing with losing the love of his life.

While on a somber note, also pray for little Logan, a four year old little boy of a close friend of mine. This week they found out he has cancer and they have begun chemotherapy. Pray for his parents, Diane and Eric as well, because being a mother now, that would be my worst nightmare coming true.

Life isn't all somber, but with an email like this, I think I should wait until another post to add the funny antecdotes (however you spell it) of my life.
